GLF Teacher Training as a Lead Provider for Inspiring Future Teachers and works with other partners to offer a range of routes into teaching:

Fee-paying routes into teaching

  • Fee-paying routes - Some teacher training courses are fee-funded. This means you must pay tuition fees and will not earn a salary while you train. There are ways to fund your training, such as tuition fees and maintenance loans. You may also be eligible for a bursary or scholarship. This route comes with a QTS and PGCE option. The University of Brighton accredits the PGCE, with learning that is integral to your course and supported by your course tutors. The length of this course is approximately 10 months.

Employment- based routes into teaching

  • Salaried routes - (for qualifying candidates with school experience) Some courses are salaried. This means you will not have to pay tuition fees and will receive a salary while you train to become a qualified teacher. You will become an unqualified teacher employed by a school for the duration of the training programme.  This route comes with a QTS and PGCE option. The University of Brighton accredits the PGCE, with learning that is integral to your course and supported by your course tutor. These courses are in high demand and very competitive, so it’s essential to apply as soon as possible if you’re eligible. The length of this course is approximately 10 months.

  • Post-graduate training apprenticeships in Primary and a range of Secondary Subjects— (for qualifying candidates). This route pays your training fees via the apprenticeship levy, and you receive a salary while training. Again, you will be an Apprentice employee in a school for the duration of your apprenticeship. This route comes with a QTS and PGCE option. The University of Brighton accredits the PGCE, with learning that is integral to your course and supported by your course tutor. The PGCE qualification comes at an additional cost, not covered by the training levy.  The length of this course is approximately 10 months.

Other Routes into Teaching

  • Assessment-only route - (for qualifying candidates with significant school experience). You can only take the assessment route if you already meet the standards for qualified teacher status (QTS), and you do not need any further training or time to get the required evidence to pass QTS. You must be ready to meet the Teacher Standards, have worked in two or more schools and age phases and meet the standard ITT entry criteria. You will undergo a series of assessments and provide a portfolio, and this programme takes up to 12 weeks. All candidates taking the assessment-only route will require an initial meeting to ensure they qualify.

  • Flexible training routes - We offer this route in both Primary and Secondary training in a range of subjects. This is a flexible way to train to teach for postgraduate candidates. This training route allows you to train over two years, supporting you to manage work/life balance, continue other work/studies, or build towards a part- time teaching career. This route comes with a QTS and PGCE option. The University of Brighton accredits the PGCE, with learning that is integral to your course and supported by your course tutor.
