Assessment and Qualifications

What qualifications do you get if you pass the course?

You will be awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) if you complete the course. This professional qualification is required to teach in state schools in England and Wales. Both the QTS and PGCE routes are equally valued by schools that want to employ the absolute best teachers in their schools.

Those trainees on the PGCE route work with the University of Brighton on a PGCE that includes various assignment types which link to your practical teaching experience in school. A blend of theory and practice.

NB: The PGCE uplift is not available on the assessment-only route and is an optional cost for those on the Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship route.

How are trainees assessed?

Assessment is against our spiral curriculum, which you will be taught during our Centre-Based and subject training and through your school-based placement experience. You will gather evidence against this curriculum. This might take the form of lesson plans, lesson observations by expert teaching professionals, and assessment data for your classes, all of which you collect throughout the course. This evidence is collected on our innovative online platform and linked to the curriculum. Those on the Assessment Only route will have already collected their evidence and be ready to move to assessment.
