Welcoming Our 2026/27 Trainee Teachers

GLF Teacher Training welcomed its new cohort of Initial Teacher Trainees for the 2026/27 academic year during two induction events held in July and August. 

This year, 47 aspiring teachers are beginning their training journey, including 26 Secondary trainees and 21 Primary trainees. Of our Primary cohort, 12 trainees are undertaking the Postgraduate Teaching Apprenticeship (PGTA) programme, combining employment in schools with high-quality teacher training.

The induction events provided a fantastic opportunity for trainees to meet one another, begin building professional relationships and gain an insight into the training year ahead. The atmosphere throughout both days was positive and energetic, with trainees demonstrating enthusiasm, commitment and a genuine passion for making a difference in the lives of young people. 

As part of the induction activities, trainees were invited to reflect on the personal qualities they felt would be most important during their training year. Words such as resilience, confidence, adaptability, determination and kindness featured prominently, highlighting the thoughtful approach our trainees are already bringing to their development as future educators. 

Kellie Hall, Assistant Director of GLF Teaching School Hub and SCITT Facilitator, said: 

"It has been wonderful to meet our new cohort and see the enthusiasm, positivity and commitment they are already bringing to their training. The qualities they identified during the induction sessions, including resilience, determination and kindness, will serve them well throughout the year ahead. We are excited to support them as they take their first steps into the teaching profession and look forward to celebrating their achievements along the way." 

Following their induction sessions, trainees have now begun their placement experience in schools and taken part in their first centre-based training session. Eleven trainees are based at our Oxfordshire training centre at Aureus School, with the remaining trainees attending training at The Beacon School in Surrey. 

Through GLF's school-centred approach, trainees will benefit from expert mentoring, practical classroom experience and high-quality professional development as they work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
